Oburu Oginga has sent a strong message to President William Ruto, making it clear that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will only support his re-election bid in 2027 if the Kenya Kwanza government delivers development.
Oburu, known for his political experience and calm demeanor, did not hold back his words. He warned that ODM is open to working with Ruto’s government, but only if there is clear evidence of good performance and service delivery to the people.
He explained that any form of partnership between ODM and UDA must be guided by action, not just promises. This statement shows that ODM is not ready to offer blind support without results that benefit Kenyans.
Oburu, who has previously defended President Ruto and shown willingness to cooperate, now insists that this cooperation must be earned. He reminded Ruto that ODM’s loyalty is not automatic and cannot be bought with sweet words.

Instead, he said it will depend on what the Kenya Kwanza government achieves between now and 2027. According to Oburu, if the government fails to deliver, ODM will have no choice but to walk away and distance itself from the administration.
This is a strong position, especially considering that Oburu has been seen as one of the leaders in ODM who favored dialogue with the current regime. His words now show a change in tone and a push for accountability.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has also echoed similar views in the past. Sifuna has repeatedly said that any form of political cooperation in the future must be based on real performance and positive change in the country.
This growing demand from top ODM leaders now adds more pressure on President Ruto, who has been trying to calm political tensions and show that he is open to working with opposition leaders. However, Oburu’s statement now draws a clear line. It tells Ruto that unless his government takes serious steps to improve the lives of ordinary Kenyans, he should not expect ODM’s support in 2027.
With the economy still struggling, the cost of living rising, and many promises still unfulfilled, the Kenya Kwanza administration now faces a test. Oburu’s words are not just about politics they reflect what many citizens are feeling.
