Spread the love

(President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family)

We in Kenya have always been given the impression that tribalism and racism are amongst Kenya’s biggest problems. Below are some interesting contradictions:

Jimmy Kibaki, a Kikuyu, is the eldest son of Kenya’s third President Mwai Kibaki, and Jimmy is married to a Kenyan Asian, a Goan known as Sheila. When Jimmy and Sheila got married in 1991, in attendance at their wedding was Kenya’s second President Daniel T. arap Moi;

Jeff Koinange, a Kikuyu, is also married to a Kenyan Asian, a Goan. Jeff is the grandson of Senior Chief Koinange wa Mbiyu, who was a wealthy and powerful Chief in Colonial Kenya. Two of Jeff’s uncles were also wealthy, powerful and feared individuals in Jomo Kenyatta’s Kenya, namely; Mbiyu Koinange, a Minister of State in Jomo Kenyatta’s Kenya, and Charles Karuga Koinange, a Provincial Commissioner in Jomo Kenyatta’s Kenya;

Peter Habenga Okondo, a “Mwana” that is a Luhyia, was a Cabinet Minister in Daniel T. arap Moi’s Kenya, and Okondo’s wife was White. Peter Habenga Okondo was also a partner in the 1970s and 1980s in one of Kenya’s most successful real estate firms ever, the Tysons Habenga;

Prof. Sam Ongeri, a Kisii, was a Cabinet Minister in Daniel T. arap Moi’s Kenya and Mwai Kibaki’s Kenya, and is the current Senator for Kisii County, Kenya. Prof. Sam Ongeri was also part of a distinguished team of medics, under the guidance of legendary South Africa cardiologist Dr. Christiaan Barnard, that performed a successful heart transplant on a Kenyan girl in 1977 at Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya, a Kenyan girl who is still alive and is now a fully grown woman. Prof. Ongeri’s wife is a Kikuyu, and is a sister to James Kanyotu, Director of the Directorate of Security Intelligence (“Special Branch”) in Jomo Kenyatta’s Kenya and Daniel T. arap Moi’s Kenya;

Kiano also holds the distinction of being the first Black Kenyan to attain a doctorate degree in 1954 from the University of California at Berkely. Dr. J.G. Kiano’s first wife was a Black American/African-American;

JJ Masiga, a “Mwana” that is a Luhyia, was in the1980s, a star striker for Kenya’s National Football Team “Harambee Stars” and a star striker too in the 1980s for Kenya’s AFC Leopards, in the days that AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia Football Club reigned supreme in Kenyan football. Masiga was also a gifted rugby player and appeared at least once in the 1980s for the then invitational Kenyan rugby team, Watembezi Pacesetters. Masiga’s wife is a Luo, a dentist like him. Kenya’s current President is Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, a Kikuyu, and a son of Jomo Kenyatta with Jomo’s fourth wife Ngina. Gideon Moi’s oldest brother Jonathan Toroitich (RIP), was married to a Kamba;

There you have it, tribe and race, strictly speaking, cannot be said to be “an organic problem” in Kenya that is tribe and race, strictly speaking, are “a generic problem” in Kenya.

In addition, it can be said that women worldwide approach “falling in love” much more seriously than men do that is your mother did not “fall in love” with your father simply because he was a “cute good looking guy” like for instance, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, Clint Eastwood or Al Pacino, but because she noted potential, promise and a future in him. The above 20 Kenyan examples are an illustration of this. It’s called survival.

All Kenyan tribes and Kenya’s three main races can and should learn from this that your mother did not “fall in love” with your father simply because they were from the same tribe or simply because they were from the same race.

Strictly speaking there is no “Love” in this world and “Love” is actually like the Coronavirus meaning, if you do not have the right “Love” credentials you will be “Locked down, and placed in both a quarantine and a curfew.” Nothing personal, just business, just survival.

Let us lock down and quarantine tribalism and racism in Kenya.
