“Why i was removed as chair of critical house committee” MP Wamuchomba Reveals

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has claimed that her ouster as head of the Constitutional Oversight Committee (CIOC) was politically motivated.

The outgoing MP, a staunch supporter of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, highlighted her strong opposition to controversial finance proposals as the basis for her removal.

Speaking after her departure, the legislator indicated that she had anticipated the move since her refusal to support some financial proposals had caused certain colleagues concern.

“I have no regrets; I served to the best of my ability. I knew they were uncomfortable with my stand against oppressive and scandalous finance bills,” she said.

She also claimed that her oversight of the National Land Commission (NLC) played a factor in her dismissal. According to her, she intervened to stop the unlawful acquisition of 400 acres of land in Kiambu, which allegedly put her at odds with powerful people.

Despite her departure, she remains determined to hold those responsible accountable.

“They may be powerful today, but we will come for their loot. It’s only a matter of time,” she said.

She also blasted the present political climate, claiming that true and principled leaders are struggling to find a place to serve under this administration. She did, however, reiterate her commitment to advocating for greater transparency and accountability in government.

“I am the woman for the job,” she declared, signalling her determination to continue advocating for integrity in public office.

The MP is a staunch critic of the government and has associated with Gachagua’s camp since his expulsion from office last year.

Wamuchomba is one of numerous Gachagua allies who have been removed from parliamentary committee chairmanship as a result of President William Ruto’s cooperation with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

While Gachagua’s allies have cried foul, blaming a political witch hunt, the government has emphasized that the moves are intended to re-engineer leadership for efficiency.
