“We were sent by politicians, paid KSh 1,000 each” Suspect in All Saints incident claims

A man who has admitted to being involved in the recent incident at All Saints Church has claimed that he and others were sent by unnamed politicians to carry out the attack.

Speaking during an interview after his arrest, the suspect said the group of young men was paid Sh1,000 each to take part in the operation.

He alleged that they were acting under instructions from individuals he did not name, saying only that they were “politicians with influence.”

According to him, he is part of a group of street youths who are often hired for different jobs, which sometimes involve illegal activities.

He added that such arrangements are not new to them, claiming that they are frequently approached by people seeking to use them for political errands, especially during tense periods.

“We were just told what to do. We were paid one thousand shillings. We are usually called when there is work like this,” he said, adding that many of the youths involved struggle with unemployment and rely on such engagements to survive.

The suspect further claimed that those who recruit them rarely show up in person, but instead use intermediaries to pass instructions and payments.

He said the group did not fully understand the consequences of their actions at the time.

Authorities are continuing with investigations into the incident, with police indicating that they are also pursuing leads to establish whether there is any truth in the claims linking the attack to political actors.

The case has raised concern among residents and leaders, who have condemned the incident and called for stronger action against those responsible.

They have also urged security agencies to dig deeper and ensure that anyone involved, regardless of status or influence, is held accountable.

Police have not yet confirmed the suspect’s claims and say investigations are ongoing.
