Police are holding a Kenyan university student arrested and charged with stealing her boyfriend’s phone worth Ksh143,000, a wallet, and a passport.
The Police said Veronica Njeri, 23, accompanied by another unidentified lady, also stole passport and solid cash all worth Ksh262,440 from a Sierra Leone diplomat Kabba Ibrahim, who had known Njeri for only two days.
The two committed the crime on November 8, 2021 at Black Rose apartments in Nairobi.
According to a news report published by Nairobi News, It all started when Njeri, a third-year student at a local private university in Nairobi, allegedly called Ibrahim and informed him that she was drunk at a nearby entertainment joint in Kilimani and needed help.
Ibrahim drove to the club in a cab and met Njeri in the company of a woman she introduced as just a friend.
Using a cab, Ibrahim took both of them to his house where the two ladies committed the crime.
Immediately they arrive home, Ibrahim left the other lady in the living room while taking Njeri to the washing to vomit.
Ibrahim told the police that they took around 10 minutes in the washroom and when they came back to the living room, the lady had already left with the valuables, leaving her mobile phone which did not have a SIM card.
Ibrahim left Njeri asleep in his house and went to report the matter to the police.
A day later after sobering up, Njeri denied knowing the lady she had earlier introduced as friend.
It was at that point that she was arrested and charged with theft.
However, she denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Esther Boke at the Kibera law courts, and was released on a KSh 300,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount, and an alternative cash bail of KSh 100,000.
The case will be mentioned again on Wednesday, November 24.
