Two more figures to bag CS positions as Ruto changes mind on some of his new appointees

Two more individuals are set to join President William Ruto’s Cabinet, signaling a shift in the politics within Kenya.

This development comes as the president appears to have changed his mind on appointing Eric Mugaa as the Water Cabinet Secretary.

Back in July, when the Gen Zs were protesting in the streets, Mugaa was initially considered for the role.

However, as the political situation evolves, the president is now focusing on other figures from the Mt Kenya East region to strengthen his position.

Reports indicate that Peter Munya, the former Governor of Meru, is expected to secure a Cabinet position.

Munya’s return to government comes after political shifts in the region.

He will be joined by another figure from the same region, which further reflects Ruto’s strategy to bring in experienced political leaders from Mt Kenya East.

This move appears to be part of the president’s ongoing efforts to consolidate his support in a region that is increasingly under pressure from various political forces, including the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In addition to Munya’s expected appointment, there are reports of another Cabinet Secretary, aside from JB Muturi, planning to resign for political reasons.

The nature of this resignation remains unclear, but it adds to the growing tension within the Cabinet as individuals weigh their political futures.

This shift comes at a time when the president is making key decisions on how to navigate the complicated politics in Kenya.

Just days before these reports, President Ruto met with Kiraitu Murungi, another seasoned politician from Mt Kenya East.

The two discussed political matters for several hours at State House.

Sources within the presidency suggest that this meeting is part of a broader strategy to secure the region for Ruto and prevent inroads by Gachagua.

Murungi, a former Governor of Meru, has long been a key player in the political affairs of the region, and his involvement signals Ruto’s intent to rely on veteran political leaders to strengthen his hold on the Mt Kenya East area.

The president’s efforts are seen as crucial in the face of the political challenge posed by Gachagua, who has been gaining traction in the region.

Gachagua, once a close ally of Ruto, has been positioning himself as a major political figure, and his influence is seen as a threat to Ruto’s power base.

By bringing in figures like Munya and Murungi, the president seems to be attempting to counter Gachagua’s rising influence and solidify his political standing in Mt Kenya East.

The appointments and resignations within Ruto’s Cabinet will have big implications for the future of the government.

The ongoing maneuvering within the Mt Kenya East region is likely to be a key factor in determining the success or failure of Ruto’s presidency.
