The inside story of how Hanifa and Kairo were used to weaken the June 2024 protests as political cartels stole millions

Cyprian Is Nyakundi has exposed yet another case of corruption and betrayal, this time involving Hanifa and Kairo.

On his X handle, Nyakundi revealed that some individuals were paid as little as Ksh. 20,000 to tweet against the idea of going to State House.

He pointed out that the real issue is how money is looted before it even reaches the people it’s meant for. Before funds reach social media influencers, they pass through at least seven hands, with only 10% trickling down.

The rest is eaten by cartels, the same way road funds disappear before any real work is done. Crazy Kennar even did a visualization of this corruption in infrastructure projects, but the same scenario plays out in political funding.

On June 26, 2024, at midnight, the state panicked and released Ksh. 500 million after fearing that State House could be occupied. Out of this, a staggering Ksh. 450 million was looted by cartels, and only Ksh. 50 million made it to campaign efforts, including social media.

It is in this small fraction that Hanifa and Kairo positioned themselves as opportunists, betraying the movement for peanuts. According to Nyakundi, these two sold out, accepting crumbs while the real money was being pocketed by corrupt elites.

Nyakundi has been vocal about how Hanifa and Kairo took part in a scheme meant to mislead the public. Instead of standing with the people, they chose to be tools of deception, tweeting propaganda for as little as Ksh. 20,000.

The question is, how can someone be so cheap? While they thought they were securing their own interests, the reality is they were being used.

They helped push a narrative that was meant to weaken the movement while those who hired them walked away with millions.

The exposure of Hanifa and Kairo should serve as a warning to other opportunists. Nyakundi has made it clear that those who betray the people for selfish gains will not go unnoticed.

The irony is that even after selling out, they did not secure any real benefits. The Ksh. 50 million that was actually spent on campaigns was still distributed unfairly, and those at the bottom got the scraps.

Hanifa and Kairo were not only used but also discarded, proving once again that corruption does not even reward its own foot soldiers.

Cyprian Is Nyakundi’s posts about these two should not be ignored. This is a clear example of how the political class manipulates young people using a few influencers while ensuring that the real money remains in the hands of a few.

The same people who misused road funds are the ones diverting campaign money. Hanifa and Kairo had a choice, but they chose to be tools for the corrupt. Now, their betrayal is out in the open, and they will have to answer to the public they sold out.
