Sudan’s military gains ground as Al-Burhan vows no talks with RSF

On Saturday, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council and commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), vowed to achieve a complete victory against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

His statement came as the army continued to gain ground in the ongoing conflict that has devastated Sudan for nearly two years.

Al-Burhan made it clear that there would be no negotiations with the RSF, as the military focuses on eliminating the group entirely. In his televised address, he reassured the public that the armed forces were committed to their mission and would not back down.

The latest developments suggest that the Sudanese army is consolidating its power and reclaiming key territories from the RSF.

The army recently declared the capture of the presidential palace and other crucial government buildings in central Khartoum. This was a major blow to the RSF, which had held these locations since the start of the conflict.

Five days later, the military also regained control of Khartoum International Airport, which had been under RSF occupation since April 2023. According to military officials, the army now fully controls Khartoum locality, one of the three main administrative areas in the capital region.

Despite these military victories, Sudan remains in crisis. The conflict has led to widespread destruction, killing tens of thousands of people and displacing over 15 million, according to UN reports.

The humanitarian situation has deteriorated rapidly, with famine threatening millions and essential services collapsing. Sudan’s healthcare system is struggling to function, making it difficult to verify the exact number of casualties.

Efforts to broker peace between the warring sides have repeatedly failed. International mediators have attempted to secure a ceasefire, but both the SAF and the RSF have been accused of violating human rights and obstructing humanitarian aid.

The lack of progress in negotiations has left the Sudanese people in a dire situation, with no immediate solution in sight.

As the conflict drags on, concerns grow over the long-term impact on Sudan’s stability. The continued fighting has devastated the country’s economy, forced millions into displacement, and worsened ethnic and political divisions.

With Al-Burhan ruling out any compromise, the war is likely to continue, further deepening the suffering of ordinary Sudanese citizens.

The question remains whether the SAF can fully defeat the RSF or if Sudan will remain trapped in a cycle of violence and destruction.
