Students connected to the Utumishi Girls’ fire reveal their main goal of starting the inferno

Seven students connected to the untimely Utumishi Girls senior school dormitory fire have told police their main goal as to why they set the Meline Waithera dormitory on fire which unfortunately killed 16 students and left 79 others severely injured.

According to them their main goal of setting the dormitory on fire was because they were upset with the school management, and wanted to burn the dormitory in bid to portray their anger.

As per their revelation, plans to torch down the dormitory started to be orchestrated some weeks ago, particularly when they were denied a chance to go home after they knew about a similar incident from a neighbouring school, where students were sent home after burning their institution.

The seven girls also said they did not plan to kill anyone during their ill plan, but they only wanted to send a strong message to the school administrators.

The confessions from the seven girls comes days after detectives got video from the school’s security cameras showing what exactly occurred on the night of Thursday 28 May 2026 when the fire was lit at abou about 12:10 a.m.

As per the disturbing CCTV footage, five of the suspects were seen walking into the dormitory as if to check whether other students were asleep.

They first proceeded to cube number 11 before they later moved to Cube 13. Shortly after that, they ran out of the room after they arranged mattresses before they set the dormitory on fire.

Afterwards, forensic tests linked the students to the scene before they were finally arrested by police officers in bid to unearth what transpired before the ill plan was launched
