State House sources hint at Gideon Moi’s return in bid to broaden Ruto’s alliance

President William Ruto’s government is said to be preparing for a major Cabinet reshuffle that could bring in unexpected faces, including former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

The move is being viewed as a calculated step to widen the ruling alliance and stabilize political relationships that have been tense since the last general election.

Sources familiar with discussions in State House have revealed that Ruto intends to reorganize top government positions to strengthen unity and attract new allies ahead of upcoming national projects and future elections.

The changes are expected to include influential politicians from different parties as part of an effort to promote inclusivity and national cohesion.

Among those being mentioned is Gideon Moi, the KANU chairman and son of the late former President Daniel arap Moi.

While it is not yet clear what role Moi might take, his name has stirred strong interest in political circles, with many seeing his return as a signal that old rivalries may be easing. Some insiders believe that Moi’s entry into Ruto’s administration could mark the beginning of a new political realignment that could alter Kenya’s balance of power.

Political analysts note that bringing Moi into the government would not only be symbolic but also politically strategic. Peter Kinyua, a political analyst, observed that Ruto’s approach appears to go beyond party boundaries and aims at building a wider support base.

According to him, the Moi name still carries significant influence, especially in the Rift Valley, and incorporating Gideon could help Ruto appeal to sections of the region that have remained distant from his camp.

Moi has kept a low profile since the 2022 election but has recently been spotted meeting various national and regional leaders. Those close to him describe these meetings as consultative, suggesting that he might be exploring a return to active politics.

His possible appointment is seen as part of Ruto’s broader plan to reconcile with past political opponents while reinforcing his development agenda through a more united front.

Apart from new inclusions, the upcoming reshuffle is also expected to target underperforming ministries as the President aims to improve service delivery and accountability.

Several Cabinet and Principal Secretaries could be reassigned or replaced to inject fresh energy into sectors that have lagged behind.

This approach, according to observers, reflects Ruto’s intention to present a more results-driven administration as his government moves into a critical phase of its term.

If Gideon Moi is appointed, it would mark his first major role in government since leaving the Senate, signaling not just a personal comeback but also a reshaping of Kenya’s political order.

Many see it as a move that could reconnect the present administration with historical political families while preparing the ground for a broader coalition in the years ahead.

The possibility of Moi joining Ruto’s team has already become a talking point, raising questions about how the country’s next political chapter might unfold.
