Soipan Tuya slams Kenyans opposing Dutch royal visit, warns of diplomatic fallout

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has spoken against Kenyans who opposed the visit of the King and Queen of the Netherlands.

While addressing a gathering in Nandi County, Tuya criticized those who used social media to spread negative sentiments about the royal visit.

She expressed concern that such actions not only tarnish Kenya’s reputation but could also damage future diplomatic relations.

Tuya emphasized that Kenya had officially welcomed King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima with honor, yet some individuals actively discouraged their visit.

She questioned why some citizens would choose to damage their own country’s image instead of supporting efforts to strengthen international ties.

She urged Kenyans to practice patriotism and avoid using online platforms to spread fear and negativity.

According to her, such behavior could have serious consequences, including discouraging foreign investors and international partners from engaging with Kenya.

She warned that if Kenyans continue to present a negative image of their country, it could lead to economic setbacks and reduced global cooperation.

Her remarks were in response to a campaign that had been launched online by certain groups attempting to discredit the royal visit.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously revealed that it had received numerous emails from individuals opposing the visit, but the ministry dismissed these complaints as a smear campaign orchestrated by a small group of online influencers.

Despite the online opposition, the Dutch King and Queen proceeded with their scheduled engagements in Kenya.

Their visit focused on discussions around trade, investment, and diplomatic cooperation.

They also attended events related to climate change and peacekeeping, reinforcing the long-standing ties between Kenya and the Netherlands. The visit highlighted the importance of Kenya’s global partnerships and the potential for increased investment and collaboration in various sectors.

Tuya maintained that instead of sabotaging such engagements, Kenyans should focus on promoting their country’s strengths.

She argued that continued negativity and opposition to international visits could have long-term consequences for Kenya’s standing in the global community.

She called on citizens to take pride in their nation and to support initiatives that contribute to its growth and development. She warned that Kenya’s reputation is at risk if people continue to use social media irresponsibly to attack diplomatic engagements.

Tuya’s remarks reflect the government’s stance on maintaining a positive international image and ensuring that Kenya remains an attractive destination for investors and global partners.

She stressed that unity and patriotism are key to securing Kenya’s future as a respected nation on the world stage.
