New information on the unfortunate death of a 17-year-old boy in Majengo who was allegedly shot in the head by a police officer, an occurrence that sparked fatal protests, has emerged.
According to human rights campaigner Hussein Khalid, the kid was shot by a police officer on Tuesday at about 8:30 p.m. while returning from night prayers at the mosque.
Despite being brought to Kenyatta Hospital, the boy died from his injuries hours later. According to the boy’s mother, the police officer scaled a wall, approached the road where the boy was, and started firing.
Unfortunately, the youngster died when a cop shot him in the head, causing him to collapse on the spot. His death sparked protests in Majengo, with a group of irate adolescents setting fire to a police vehicle this morning.
A rising cloud of fire was seen in videos and photographs posted on X, but we couldn’t tell if they were administrative offices or police stations.
Since the suspected murder, furious citizens have taken to the streets, demanding responsibility from those involved.
Shortly after the protests began, Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan condemned the killing and called on the Independent Oversight Policing Authority (IPOA) to investigate and bring the officer to justice.
Hassan emphasized the essential need for accountability and justice within the National Police Service.
“The senseless killing of a 17-year-old youth with disabilities is a tragedy that deeply saddens and angers me,” Hassan stated.
“I strongly condemn the murder, (in which the boy) was shot in the head by a police officer in Majengo yesterday evening and died shortly after being taken to the hospital. His life, full of potential, was cruelly cut short.”
“I demand a swift and thorough investigation by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) into this horrific act. The officer responsible must be apprehended and held accountable for his actions,” he asserted.
On Wednesday morning, police were dispatched to the scene to settle the situation, and tear gas was thrown at the protesting youngsters, but tensions remained high.
According to reports from social justice centres, three more persons have been injured as police officers continue to disperse the noisy crowds.
According to unconfirmed allegations, irate youths demolished an administrative office. The riots occurred at a time when Kenya was already dealing with the consequences of alleged extrajudicial executions in the region.
