Raila Odinga’s peaceful moments in India before his sudden collapse

In Kerala, India, the morning of October 15, 2025, began like any other at the Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital.

The former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga had been receiving treatment there, finding peace in the calm and green surroundings of the facility.

He was said to be in good spirits, often sharing light conversations with staff and patients.

That morning, he took his usual walk around the hospital compound, joined by his daughter. Witnesses described him as calm and gentle, showing no sign of pain or fatigue.

He spoke softly, smiled, and even mentioned that he was preparing to return home soon.

Nothing about that morning suggested that it would be his last.

Moments later, as he continued walking, Raila suddenly fell to the ground.

Hospital staff rushed to help, performing emergency procedures before transferring him to a nearby private hospital in Koothattukulam.

Doctors worked tirelessly to save him, but after several attempts, they pronounced him dead at 9:53 a.m. local time.

The cause was confirmed as a massive cardiac arrest. His brother, Oburu Odinga, later addressed the media, struggling to come to terms with the news.

He explained that the family had been hopeful and that Raila’s condition had shown signs of improvement just days earlier. The shock of his passing left them deeply shaken.

There were no emotional farewells or final statements, only a peaceful morning walk that turned into his last moment.

Those who were with him remember his calmness and kindness, qualities that defined him both in public and private life.

His death marked the end of an era for Kenya, but in Kerala, he was remembered simply as a humble man in search of healing, surrounded by compassion and quiet respect.
