AU’s Special envoy for infrastructure and development, Raila Odinga this morning held talks with Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng who paid him a courtesy call at the Capitol Hill offices and exchanged views on strengthening of ties between the two countries. They also discussed strengthening ties between China and Africa.
The two singled out trade, culture and infrastructure development as areas with potential for more collaboration.
Mr. Odinga appealed to China to partner with Kenya in developing modern sports facilities as a way of strengthening cultural co-operation. He further asked China to support development of Kenya’s maritime transport sector to boost regional trade and to invest in the development of the Special Economic Zones planned for various parts of the country.
Ambassador Wu Peng assured Mr. Odinga that China remains keen on supporting the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway to Kisumu and Busia. He further disclosed that the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR line is making good financial progress and is on track to breaking even.
