President Ruto cites safety concerns as he declines WRC 2025 ride

President William Ruto has turned down an offer to drive a rally car in the highly anticipated World Rally Championship (WRC) race in 2025.

This decision comes in contrast to a previous rally event where he took part in a ride and described the experience as unforgettable.

During that event, Ruto expressed his excitement about the ride, calling it a wonderful and thrilling experience. He recalled the high speed, the challenging bends, and the skill of the professional drivers, emphasizing that it was an experience like no other.

Despite his enthusiasm during the past rally, Ruto declined the invitation this year when rally driver Minesh Rathod made the offer at a meeting at State House in Nairobi.

While he acknowledged that the experience was amazing, he described it as a once-in-a-lifetime event that he would always remember but not necessarily repeat.

In a light-hearted moment, he hinted that being in the field was far more intense than it seemed from the outside.

This suggests that while he enjoyed the adventure, he may have found it too risky to try again.Minesh tried to persuade the President to take the ride, but Ruto firmly declined, citing concerns from those close to him.

He revealed that his allies were unlikely to approve of him getting into a rally car again. He recalled how, after his previous experience, his friends raised concerns about his safety, making it clear that they would not support him attempting it again.

This shows that while Ruto has a keen interest in motorsports, he is also mindful of the risks involved and respects the concerns of those around him.Even though he chose not to participate in the rally car ride, Ruto emphasized the significance of the WRC 2025 event.

He highlighted how the championship provides an opportunity for Kenyans to witness the impressive skills of local drivers while also bringing people together for entertainment.

He noted that the event attracts participants and spectators from neighboring countries and beyond, contributing to Kenya’s tourism industry.

According to Ruto, the rally is not just about speed and competition but also a chance for Kenyans to celebrate their nation’s sporting culture and enjoy a unifying experience.

The WRC 2025 is set to take place from Thursday to Sunday, March 23, 2025. The event is expected to draw huge crowds and showcase Kenya’s ability to host a major international motorsport competition.

Despite declining the rally car ride, Ruto’s remarks show his appreciation for the event’s impact on sports, tourism, and national unity.
