Detectives in Bomet County have made a significant drug bust after intercepting a vehicle carrying a large quantity of bhang.
While on routine patrol along the Sotik-Kaplong Highway, officers from Sotik Police Station flagged down a Toyota Isis.
The driver, however, immediately abandoned the car and fled, prompting officers to inspect the vehicle.
During the search, they found seven sacks containing a total of 350 kilograms of bhang, with an estimated value of Ksh.7 million.
The escape of the driver did not slow down the investigation. The officers, determined to apprehend the suspect, launched a manhunt using forensic leads.
Their pursuit led them all the way to Nairobi, where the driver had taken refuge in Kibra.
The suspect was identified as Diab Asman Bhakit. He was arrested without incident and escorted back to Sotik Police Station for processing.
Authorities confirmed that Bhakit is now awaiting arraignment in court.The seized narcotics and the Toyota Isis were also transported to the station as part of the evidence to support the upcoming court case.
Officers emphasized that the seizure was part of ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking of illegal drugs in the region.
