Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has reportedly been arrested under unclear circumstances while traveling along the Isiolo Nanyuki road.
The news of his arrest was first shared through a post on his verified X account on Friday, May 16, where the MP said he had been taken into custody.
“I have been arrested on my way from Isiolo on the Nanyuki road,” he wrote, without giving further details on who had arrested him or why.
Salasya had earlier raised alarm on social media, claiming he was being followed by men carrying AK-47 rifles. “We are under attack by men with AK-47s,” he had posted, suggesting that his safety was under threat before the alleged arrest.
He did not indicate whether the men who arrested him were police officers or other unknown individuals. There has been no official statement from the police or government authorities to confirm or deny the incident or explain why the MP was arrested.
At the time of the alleged arrest, Salasya was in Isiolo County on what he called a 2027 presidential familiarisation tour. He had addressed residents of Isiolo Town and later moved towards Nanyuki.

Earlier that day, he had held a similar public meeting in Meru County, where he spoke to local residents and continued to market his presidential ambition. His recent travels have been widely shared on social media, where he posts videos and updates about his tours in different counties across the country.
This is not the first time the MP has raised concerns about threats to his safety during his countrywide tour. Just a few weeks ago, while in Mombasa, he claimed he narrowly escaped arrest by armed men.

That incident, like the latest one, was not followed by any official explanation or action from security agencies. It has raised more questions about the kind of protection given to sitting MPs, especially when they claim to be under threat.
Salasya’s political journey has been marked by a unique approach to campaigning and self-promotion, and his early declaration of interest in the 2027 presidency has stirred mixed reactions.
Some see him as brave and ambitious, while others question the seriousness of his mission.
However, the repeated claims of being trailed or arrested during his tours may increase concern about his safety and whether he is being targeted for his political activities.
Until authorities confirm the situation or give reasons for the latest arrest, many Kenyans will continue to speculate on what is really happening.
