The orange democratic movement party on Wednesday evening held a harambee for their candidate for Kibra by-election Mr Imran Okoth at Marsh Park Hotel Nairobi.
The well attended collection by all ODM party parliamentarians, officials, members and other leaders saw about Ksh12 million contributed in less than 30minutes.
The harambee was led by ODM party leader Raila Odinga who gave a personal contributions of Ksh1.5 million.
A number of leaders present also promised to further give other campaigns material support that would include sound system, campaign vehicles, burners, truck, and human resource.
The monies raised will see a heated campaigns going forward as ODM party will now be fully on the ground. They further swore to take their seat back.
Earlier in the day, ODM party got a boost after Jubilee Youth Leaders issued a statement in Kibra declaring their support for one Imran Okoth.
“It has been made to appear as if one of our own is vying on a Jubilee party ticket in the upcoming Kibra by-election. Today as Jubilee Youth leaders from Kibra and Kenya at large, we distance ourselves from that particular project that is being forced down our throats, and we hereby endorse the ODM candidate Mr Imran Okoth” their statement read in part.
Adding, “Having evaluated all the candidates, we have come to the conclusion that the candidate with the vision and clout to fit in the gap and continue with the great works left by the late Hon Ken Okoth is non other than Imran.”
They swore not to allow anybody to thwart President Uhuru Kenyatta’s efforts in “Uniting and enhancing peace among Kenyans”.
They further promised to mobilize votes for the ODM Party candidate and even help in protecting those votes.
“As a team we are not going to stop here; we willobilize our people and fellow jubilee party members to support, vote and protect the votes of ODM’s candidate Mr Imran Okoth. Kibra is safe in his hands and the Handshake will remain strong” Jubilee Youth leaders concluded in their statement.
The leaders who were led by Zack Kinuthia, a former vibrant SONU chairman, were received by Raila Odinga’s younger sister, Ms Ruth Adhiambo Odinga and other party officials.
