Investigators working on the shocking killing of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were have now found new evidence that may help explain why and how he was murdered.
One of the biggest developments in the case is the discovery of a large amount of money that police believe could be linked to the crime. This has opened a new chapter in the investigations, giving officers fresh clues and stronger reasons to hold the suspects involved.
Everything changed after police arrested several people suspected to be behind the MP’s murder. One of them is William Imoli Shighali. In the report by Daily Nation, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) searched his house in Umoja II, they found $4,800 in cash, which is about KSh620,000, along with a used bullet casing.
This immediately raised suspicions that the money might have been part of the payment given to the assassins. The bullet casing, found in the same house, added more weight to the theory that Shighali had a direct role in the killing. The MP was shot in a shocking ambush while in traffic along Ngong Road on April 30. He was hit five times and later died from the wounds.
The nature of the attack, carried out in broad daylight, made it clear that this was not a random act of violence but a planned assassination. Shighali’s arrest has helped detectives trace other suspects and understand how the plan was carried.

Another suspect now in custody is Juma Ali Haikai. Police say he had a motorbike that was likely used to follow the MP’s car before the attack. This link is being taken seriously, especially after officers searched his house and found items that paint a worrying picture.
Among the items found were tear gas canisters, live bullets, police uniforms, and shoes that look exactly like the ones worn by the shooter caught on CCTV.
Both Shighali and Haikai were among four people presented in court at the JKIA Law Courts. The judge allowed detectives to keep them in custody for 30 more days as investigations continue.
Officers are still looking for the murder weapon and are trying to confirm if Haikai is actually linked to the police service, as he claims. The killing of MP Were has shocked the country and raised a strong demand from the public for justice. His body is expected to be taken to Homa Bay on May 9 for burial.
Police sources close to the investigation reveal that they’re now looking into potential political motives behind the assassination. Investigators are carefully examining his recent parliamentary contributions and local development projects that might have upset certain powerful interests.
