Nelson Havi predicts trouble for Moses Wetang’ula as he alleges what Ruto might do next

The recent Court of Appeal ruling on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has sparked mixed reactions, with former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi offering his take on the matter.

The court found that there was no binding High Court order requiring Wetang’ula to step down from his position as Speaker or as the leader of Ford Kenya. This ruling effectively put a stop to efforts seeking to force him out of either role, leaving his political standing intact for now.

However, the decision has not quelled the bigger political discussions surrounding Wetang’ula’s influence within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Havi, known for his sharp legal mind and provocative opinions, took to social media to share his thoughts on the ruling.

In a biblical reference, he compared the situation to the dilemma faced by King Herod regarding John the Baptist, implying that President William Ruto might soon find himself in a similarly tough position.

Havi’s analogy suggests that the president could face increasing pressure to address internal power struggles within his government, particularly concerning Wetang’ula’s dual role and its implications for governance.

The legal battle over Wetang’ula’s positions has been ongoing, with critics arguing that holding both roles violates the principle of separation of powers.

They believe that his continued leadership of Ford Kenya while serving as Speaker creates a conflict of interest, raising constitutional concerns.

However, with the Court of Appeal’s latest decision stating that there was no specific High Court order directing him to relinquish either post, Wetang’ula remains secure in his current positions.

The ruling has been seen as a major victory for him and his allies, but it does not eliminate the possibility of further legal and political challenges.

Despite the legal clarity provided by the court, the political tensions within Kenya Kwanza are unlikely to disappear.

Different factions within the ruling coalition continue to jostle for power, and Wetang’ula’s position remains a key point of contention.

Havi’s remarks highlight the possibility that this issue will not fade quietly, as other political players may seek alternative ways to challenge Wetang’ula’s influence.

Some within the coalition might pressure Ruto to intervene, while others could attempt new legal maneuvers to revisit the matter.

President Ruto now finds himself in a delicate balancing act. On one hand, Wetang’ula is an important ally who played a crucial role in delivering votes for Kenya Kwanza in the 2022 elections.

On the other hand, continued discontent over his dual role could create divisions within the coalition, forcing Ruto to make tough political choices. Whether he will be compelled to act against Wetang’ula remains uncertain, but as Havi’s comments suggest, this matter is far from over.
