A new opinion poll by Mwelekeo Insights shows Oyugi Magwanga leading the Homabay gubernatorial race with 57.9% support, well ahead of Governor Gladys Wanga, who has 29%. The survey places Hesbon Omollo at 7.9%, Evans Kidero at 4.8%, while 0.4% of respondents remain undecided.
The findings indicate a 28.9 percentage point gap between Magwanga and Wanga, making him the clear frontrunner at the time the survey was conducted.
What the Poll Numbers Show
The survey focused on voter preferences in Homabay County and presented the results using percentages to make it easier to understand how support is shared among the candidates.
According to the findings, Magwanga has the backing of more than half of the respondents, giving him a strong lead over the rest of the field.
Gladys Wanga, who is seeking another term as governor, came second with 29% support.
Although this represents a significant share of respondents, it is still far behind Magwanga’s 57.9%.
The difference of 28.9 percentage points highlights the size of the lead recorded in the poll.
Hesbon Omollo attracted 7.9% support, while Evans Kidero received 4.8%. Only 0.4% of those surveyed said they had not yet decided who they would support.
The low number of undecided voters suggests that many respondents had already formed an opinion about their preferred candidate.
The survey also reported a 100% response rate among those sampled, with all responses considered valid.
This means there were no rejected responses in the final results, allowing the poll to present a complete picture of the views collected during the exercise.
The Role of Mwelekeo Insights
Mwelekeo Insights, top Kenyan research and opinion polling firm that conducts surveys on political, social, and economic issues.
The organization aims to measure public opinion through structured research and data analysis, helping provide a clearer understanding of voter sentiment across different parts of the country.
Rather than relying on speculation, the firm uses survey data to show where candidates stand at a particular point in time. Polls like these provide an indication of public opinion before an election, although they do not predict the final outcome.
They reflect the views of respondents during the period when the survey was carried out.
By presenting findings in percentages, Mwelekeo Insights makes it easier to compare the level of support enjoyed by different candidates.
These figures can help political parties, candidates, analysts, and members of the public understand trends in voter preferences.
Looking at Mwelekeo’s Previous Polling
Mwelekeo Insights has previously conducted surveys in other competitive political races, including the Kamukunji parliamentary contest.
In those polls, the firm also identified clear leaders based on voter support at the time of the survey.
Such surveys have been used to monitor changes in voter sentiment as campaigns progress. While opinion polls provide useful information, they represent a look of public opinion rather than the final election result.
Campaign activities, political developments, and voter engagement can influence support before polling day.
