Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi says he would increase access to credit and loans for women leaders in businesses to create an enabling environment for their businesses.
Speaking on Wednesday during the launch of a training manual for female politicians in Nairobi, Mudavadi has promised to increase access to water and quality healthcare.
Our plan must be women. The strategy must be women, and the solution must be women.said Mudavadi.
However, he is challenging women to contest for their rightful political positions than waiting to be given posts.
He says the political environment in the country has not been accommodating women in elective positions even after over 50 years since independence.
Mudavadi states that only 172 women got elected to various elective positions across the country in the 2017 elections.
Therefore, the ANC party has launched the training ahead of next year’s General Elections.
The manual gives guidelines to women who aspire to vie for various elective posts.
Further, ANC promises to field more female candidates in all available elective seats.
We are intentional in our desire to bring onboard more women candidates in 2022 polls.said Mudavadi.
The manual is dubbed “Towards Political Empowerment of Women in Politics”.
It guides women aspirants on maneuvering in the murky waters of the harsh political environment in the country.
Further, the manual provides candidates with tips on designing and executing effective voter mobilization strategies, budgeting, event planning, resource mobilization skills, and so forth.
Mudavadi said his party will not tolerate acts of violence, deliberately done to disenfranchise women.
As well as discourage them from participating in politics.
we will put in place mechanisms to protect the rights of women to participate in our party primaries.he added.
Additionally, he pledges to fully support affirmative action and the need to address the continued marginalization of women as envisaged under Article 100 of the Constitution.
Former Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi and Women Representative Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga).
Nominated Senator Farlija Haji (Jubilee) among other women leaders were present at the launch.
