Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has made a strong political statement, warning that President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027 is almost guaranteed.
Speaking in Kilifi during an Iftar event, Mudavadi pointed out that despite rising frustrations among the youth, Ruto has already positioned himself strategically for another term.
His main weapon? A powerful alliance that Mudavadi believes will be extremely difficult to challenge.
Mudavadi revealed that Ruto’s growing partnership with ODM leader Raila Odinga could be the ultimate political shift. He claimed that Raila’s loyal supporters, who have always been a strong voting bloc, would give Ruto a major boost. With their recent handshake, which saw ODM secure top government positions and key parliamentary committees, the two leaders have signaled a new era of cooperation.
This, Mudavadi suggested, makes it almost impossible for any opposition movement to gain traction.
Despite acknowledging the frustrations of Kenyans, especially the youth who staged mass protests in 2024, Mudavadi dismissed the idea that such demonstrations would lead to a change in leadership.
He argued that with Ruto and Raila now working together to push forward policies on devolution and job creation, they have successfully taken the wind out of the opposition’s sails.
This means that any attempts to rally against the government may struggle to gain support.
Mudavadi also highlighted Raila’s role in stabilizing the government during a politically turbulent 2024. At a time when widespread protests and public dissatisfaction had put Ruto under pressure, Raila’s involvement helped bring calm to the political scene.
His efforts played a key role in allowing Ruto to regain control, especially after the president was forced to cancel international trips due to mounting political instability. With Raila now firmly aligned with Ruto’s administration, Mudavadi believes that any opposition attempt to challenge them in 2027 might be doomed from the start.
As the next election approaches, the political field continues to change. The once-clear battle lines are now blurred, with Raila and Ruto seemingly on the same side.
This raises a crucial question, will any opposition figure be able to challenge this alliance successfully, or has Ruto already secured his second term through careful political maneuvering?
With this new political reality, it appears that the road to 2027 may already be mapped out in Ruto’s favor.
