The National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, has officially confirmed the vacancy of the parliamentary seat for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, following the death of MP Johana Ng’eno.
The confirmation was made through Gazette Notice No. 3957, dated March 10, 2026, formally notifying the public and initiating the legal process for a by-election.
According to the notice, the vacancy arises in accordance with Articles 101(4)(a) and 103(1)(a) of the Constitution of Kenya and section 16(3) of the Elections Act.
These provisions ensure that the constituents are informed and that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) can take the necessary steps to organise a by-election.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Articles 101(4)(a) and 103(1)(a) of the Constitution and section 16(3) of the Elections Act, 2011, it is hereby notified for the general information of the public that the seat of the Member of the National Assembly for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, elected under Article 97(1)(a) of the Constitution, has become vacant as a result of the death of Joshua Kipyegon Ng’eno on February 28, 2026,” reads the notice.
Ng’eno, who had represented Emurua Dikirr since 2013, tragically passed away in February 2026, leaving the seat vacant.
His tenure was marked by a strong commitment to local development, education, and community engagement, and his death prompted immediate constitutional action to maintain representation for the constituency.
The IEBC announced that a by-election will be conducted to fill the vacant seat, allowing constituents to select a new representative to carry forward the work of the late MP.
By-elections for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, Porro Ward in Samburu West and Endo Ward in Marakwet East will be conducted on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
In a gazette notice dated March 13, 2026, the commission named Returning and Deputy Returning Officers to oversee the polls and ensure they are conducted according to the Constitution and electoral laws.
