Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has been accused of extorting musicians especially those from mount Kenya over Ksh480 million in royalties from Safaricom.

Kuria who is number one critique of President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to be owning and running a company called Fanaka Mobile Limited which he acquired from Charity Mwangi.

This Company is essentially a Premium Rates Service Provider (PRSP) licensed by safaricom to sell Skiza codes to content creators such as musicians.

Using his tag of Njamba ya Ruririi, Moses Kuria reportedly lobbied Musicians especially from the Mountain to give him Business, which they did. They did so in droves and they got skiza tune codes which are active todate.

The agreement was that Fanaka Mobile limited was to pay the musicians their monthly pay from safaricom skiza loyalties. Something that has never come to pass.

It’s said that Moses Kuria has been eating the payment from from Safaricom, now running into hundreds of millions of money with official figures indicating that upto Ksh 480 million shillings belonging to poor musicians have been stolen.

Fanaka Mobile Ltd is said to be a subsidiary of Fanaka TV launched by Kuria in April 2017 as an entertainment station to provide jobs and other opportunities for young people mainly from his constituency, a local blog states.

It further states that this plan failed to pick as an entertainment station prompting Kuria to hire former Citizen TV presenter Terryanne Chebet as CEO, who has since steered it to be a business channel.

According to Wagunya Muriu, a political commentator, “Kuria has been dodging the musicians and has since closed the Fanaka Mobile Limited offices but the skiza codes remain active.”

“To make the matter worse, Kuria was one of those Tangatanga adherents who criticized the President when he allocated Ksh200 Million per month for Musicians, the real hustlers” he added
