Hon. Moses Kuria, a prominent Kenyan political figure, has sparked heated debate with his latest remarks targeting critical governance practices in President William Ruto’s administration.
Kuria outlined four key issues that he described as essential for Kenya’s progress and stability, urging the government to address them without fail.
In his statement, Kuria emphasized that these four elements are non-negotiable and must be prioritized to ensure proper governance and development across the nation.
1. Regular Elections Every Five Years
Kuria stressed the importance of maintaining Kenya’s five-year electoral cycle, describing it as the bedrock of the country’s democratic framework.
According to him, adhering to this timeline is essential for preserving the voice of the people and ensuring political accountability.
2. Peaceful Transition of Power
The vocal leader called for smooth transitions between administrations, labeling this process as a hallmark of political maturity.
Kuria emphasized that an orderly transfer of power not only safeguards the nation’s stability but also strengthens public confidence in governance systems.
3. Decennial Census
He further highlighted the importance of conducting a national census every ten years.
Kuria pointed out that accurate population data is vital for effective resource allocation and planning, arguing that any delays in this process would hamper Kenya’s socio-economic development.
4. Boundary Reviews Every Ten Years
At the heart of Kuria’s message was his call for a boundary review, slated for 2025.
He argued that boundary adjustments are critical for addressing changes in population distribution and ensuring equitable political representation. Using the Swahili phrase, “Na sio tafadhali” (and not as a favor), Kuria emphasized that this issue should not be taken lightly.
Kuria described these four aspects as “unavoidable,” warning that neglecting them could disrupt Kenya’s democratic and development agenda.
He concluded by stating, “The rest we can debate, but these four are sacrosanct.”This bold statement puts the Ruto administration in the spotlight, urging it to focus on these constitutional obligations.
With 2025 around the corner, Kuria’s call for action has set the stage for crucial discussions on Kenya’s governance and representation systems.
