Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has condemned the increasing cases of extrajudicial killings in Kenya, many of which are linked to the police. Speaking in Parliament, she said it is alarming that people are being killed without proper investigations or accountability. She said the government must act fast before the situation gets worse.
Odhiambo said the killings are not new and reminded Parliament about the Gen Z protests last year where many young Kenyans were reportedly killed by police. She questioned why no one has been held accountable and why the government has stayed silent. She said the country still doesn’t know how many people died, who was responsible, and whether any action was taken.
According to her, this silence sends the wrong message to the youth. She made it clear that the youth deserve justice and honest answers. She warned that the government is playing with fire by ignoring these killings. If nothing is done, she said, the anger among young people will grow and could lead to serious unrest. She told Parliament that ignoring the problem is like digging the government’s own grave.
Odhiambo’s remarks came just days after new reports of killings in Narok under unclear circumstances. She said this proves the problem is getting worse and the government is still not doing enough. She challenged the relevant ministries to stop hiding and present a clear public report. She said Kenyans want to see investigations, arrests, and real justice.
She warned that if the government doesn’t act, it will be to blame for what might happen next. “If proper investigations are not done, and the public is not given a clear report, believe me Mr. Speaker, as a government, we are fueling the anger of our young people,” she said. “We are digging our own grave. When the youth rise, I don’t know who will stop them.”
Her words were blunt and meant to send a strong message. Odhiambo was not asking for favours. She was demanding truth, justice, and accountability. The killings must stop, and those responsible must face the law. Her warning should not be taken lightly. If the government continues to stay quiet, the anger on the ground will only grow. The time to act is now.
