Detectives from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested another suspect in connection with the murder of taxi driver Victoria Mumbua Muloki.
Muloki’s case gained national attention after she went missing for more than three weeks before her body was discovered in the City Mortuary on October 3, 2024.
Following her disappearance, the DCI launched investigations that led to the arrest of Edwin Ng’etich, the last customer she transported before her tragic death. Ng’etich had requested a ride from Mombasa to Samburu.
When police apprehended him, he was found in possession of the deceased driver’s vehicle.
During questioning, Ng’etich made a chilling confession. He told detectives that on September 27, he lured Muloki into the trip, then attacked her while inside the car. He admitted to repeatedly battering her before tying her up in the back seat.
The brutality of the crime shocked many, especially when the details of her autopsy were made public. Government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor confirmed that Muloki suffered severe trauma before her death.
The report indicated that she had been assaulted multiple times with a blunt object before being strangled.
As investigations continued, the DCI made another breakthrough. On Friday, February 21, detectives announced the arrest of another suspect believed to have worked with Ng’etich.
The individual was taken into custody as part of the ongoing probe into Muloki’s murder. According to the police, the suspect was also linked to another killing the murder of a male cab driver from Migori, who died mysteriously on July 31, 2024.
Authorities have stated that their investigation is far from over, and they are actively pursuing more individuals connected to these crimes. The pattern of attacks has raised concerns over the safety of taxi drivers, especially those working in high-risk areas. With two separate cases now under review, police are under pressure to establish whether these murders are part of a larger criminal operation.
In another separate case, the DCI arrested a 39-year-old woman for her alleged role in a man’s murder in Nairobi on May 11, 2022. Initially, the crime was reported at Kasarani Police Station as a case of mob justice.
However, after receiving a complaint letter on November 19, 2023, detectives reopened the case and gathered fresh evidence, leading to her arrest. The recent arrests highlight the ongoing work by law enforcement to solve violent crimes and bring those responsible to justice.
However, they also expose the dangers faced by taxi drivers and the need for better security measures to protect them. The DCI has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could help prevent further attacks.
