The Kenya Meteorological Department on Monday July 20 has warned of extremely cold weather in parts of Nairobi.
In a tweet posted on their official account, low daily temperatures below 15 degrees is expected over parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Nakuru Narok, Nyamira, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Keiyo-Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma and Taita Taveta Counties.
Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nthi, Meru, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Laikipia and Samburu are also expected to record temperatures of below 15 degrees.
In addition, rainfall of heavy nature exceeding 70mm is expected around the parts of Laikipia, Nyandarua, Baringo, Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Samburu, & West Pokot Counties.
“Moderate rainfall between 50-70 mm is expected over some parts of Turkana, Laikipia, Nakuru & Marakwet Counties.” the agency wrote.
Light rainfall 10-50 mm is expected over some parts of Kericho, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Nandi, Kericho, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisii, Nyamira, Bpmet, Kisumu, Busia, Meru, Nyeri, Kirinyaga & Turkana Counties.
The rest parts of the counties especially for Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Narok, Makueni, Embu, Garissa, Tana River, Wajir, Isiolo, Taita Taveta, Mandera, Marsabit and Coastal Counties are expected to remain relatively dry.
“High daily-mean temperatures above 30˚C is expected much parts of Turkana, Marsabit, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River and some parts of Mandera, Kitui, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Kwale and Kajiado Counties,” the seven day forecast indicated.
Nairobi residents have been experiencing particularly cold weather in some days and warm weather in others.
The Meteorological department has advised residents to keep warm through warm clothing and avoid cold weather as much as possible.
