Former member of Parliament Martha Karua has today hinted at running for the top seat come 2022. This she said during the on going Women Agenda conference by the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD) Kenya.
“I am going to make a big comeback. We cannot teach our children that some seats are only meant for men. And, I will not be anyone’s deputy. My middle name is not ‘deputy’.”
Martha Karua is a long serving member of parliament for Gichugu constituency who also served in the Cabinet during the Kibaki regime as the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs until her resignation in April 2019.
Karua is a trailblazer in the championing of women affairs and advocacy for equal opportunities for women in leadership and politics. She is a mentor to many including Nairobi county woman rep Hon Esther Passaris.
She is also fondly remembered for the infamous 2007 elections that were marred with rigging and led to post election violence. She was a supporter of the then president Kibaki and a known hardliner.
