The much anticipating match in which fans couldn’t hold their horses to see Argentine star Lionel Messi make his debut since La Liga was put on halt following the corona virus pandemic that greatly affected Spain, finally took place in Iberostar stadium with a satisfying performance for Barcelona. Messi did not disappoint his fans by leading the team in a four goals to nil victory against Spanish side Marlloca.
Barca took an early lead after Arturo Vidal gifted the Spanish giants with a goal just two minutes after the game had started, as Braithwaite curved it in, in the 37th minute making him the third danish player to score a La liga goal for Barcelona after Allan Simonsen and Michael Laudrup. The misery of Marlloca who are currently struggling in the 18th position of the La Liga table continued after Alba secured a third goal at the 79th minute. An interruption was witnessed when an invader possessing a Messi Argentina jersey made his way to the pitch despite the stadium being without fans in accordance to the measures taken to curb the spread of the virus but the disruption was shortlived. A great pass from the former Liverpool forward, Luis Suarez who has just recovered from a right knee surgery to football star Lionel Messi enabled him to score his first goal since their return making it his twentieth La Liga goal for a 12th straight season.
Barcelona are now 5 points clear at the top of the table from bitter rivals Real Madrid who will be keen to secure a victory today against Eibar and trim the gap between them in a battle to win the championship.
