After a 2-1 loss to Arsenal last week in the FA, Liverpool regain their glory and prove to the world why they are the champions of the English Premier League by beating FA finalists Chelsea 5-3 at Anfield. A loss which is greatly felt by the blues as they now drop to the fourth position and need to secure a point against Wolves on Sunday to secure their Champions League slot.
The match which saw both teams both having equal power in terms of dominance in the game with a 50-50 ball possession saw an early lead by the reds as Keita scored a rising shot into the top right past Kepa at the 33rd minute. Few minutes later after the first score saw Alexander-Arnold netting a free kick similar to the one he scored against Crystal palace to now silence Lampard’s men with a two points gap.
The frustration did not end there as Klopp’s men proved they are the champions by netting the third goal at the 43rd minute scored by Wijnaldum. As the frustrations continued, Frenchman Oliver Giroud who has been very inspirational in netting goals for Chelsea did not disappoint after he scored a consolation goal few minutes before breaking for the first half.
After breaking for the first half, it was almost sure that the two Premier league giants were bound to serve their fans with an entertaining second half judging from the dramatic first half and indeed it was after Liverpool’s Robert Firmino scored his first league goal of the season at Anfield to put his team on a 4 goals cushion against struggling Chelsea.
The blues regained their spirits after Tammy Abraham netted the second goal for his team thanks to Christian Pulisic’s superb assist. The American went ahead to uplift the blue’s esteem by lashing a superb shot into the top right for Chelsea to secure 3 goals in the game.
Just when the blues hoped for a superb comeback thanks to the three goals then their hopes were killed at the 84th minute after Oxlade-Chamberlain sealed the game with the fifth goal for the reds. The win was a good way to boost the spirits of Liverpool as they received their premier league trophy after a 30 year wait that finally paid off when they were officially announced as the league’s champions. Liverpool snatched the trophy from second placed Manchester city in a colorful ceremony after the game.
As for Chelsea, their bitter rivals Manchester United couldn’t have wished for anything more than tonight’s loss which has seen the red devils leap frog to the third place on goal difference after they drew 1-1 against Westham united at Old Trafford. Chelsea will now be forced to secure a point against Wolves on Sunday for them to guarantee a slot at the Champions league next season.
As for Norwich things have been looking ugly for the team which has been demoted after a poor performance and collecting only 21 points out of the 37 games played, a performance which has seen Westbromwich Albion promoted to the premier league after a 2-2 draw against Queens Park Rangers.
