List of constituencies that are likely to be scrapped as boundary review looms

Citizen TV senior reporter Stephen Letoo has recently shared some important news about possible changes to Kenya’s electoral boundaries.

According to Letoo, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) might review and adjust the boundaries of some constituencies in the coming days.

This review could lead to the scrapping of several constituencies across different regions of the country.

Letoo posted a list of these constituencies on his Facebook account, and it has caused quite a stir, especially in the regions that are likely to be affected.

The Coast region, for example, is expected to be the hardest hit. If the review goes ahead, this region could lose up to five constituencies.

Some of the areas at risk include Bura, Mvita, Galole, Mwatate, Wundanyi, Voi, Lamu East, and Lamu West.

These changes could have a impact on the people living in these areas, as they might find themselves represented differently or merged with neighboring constituencies.

In the Mt Kenya region, several constituencies are also at risk of being scrapped. These include Othaya, Mathioya, Mukurwe-Ini, Kangema, Mbere North, Ndaragwa, and Tetu.

The people in these areas might have to adjust to new boundaries, which could affect how they are represented in government.

Similarly, the Rift Valley region is not spared. Constituencies like Mogotio, Keiyo North, Samburu East, and Marakwet East are also on the list of areas that might be affected by the boundary review.

Western Kenya is also likely to see some changes. Budalangi and Vihiga are two constituencies that could be scrapped if the IEBC goes ahead with the review.

Additionally, in other parts of the country, areas like Laisamis, North Horr, and Kilome are also at risk of being removed from the list of constituencies.

The Nyanza region was not included in the list shared by Letoo, which means it might not be affected by these changes.

The potential scrapping of these constituencies has raised concerns among residents and leaders in the affected regions. Many people are worried about how these changes might impact their representation and access to government services.

Some fear that merging constituencies could lead to a loss of identity for certain communities, while others are concerned about the practical challenges that might arise from such changes.

As the IEBC prepares to review the boundaries, it is important for everyone to stay informed and engaged in the process.

The decisions made during this review could have long-lasting effects on how people are represented and how resources are distributed across the country.

For now, all eyes are on the IEBC as Kenyans wait to see what the final outcome of this boundary review will be.
