KNH reveals the rare disease patient who was stabbed to death in ward was suffering from

As reported by the Star, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has revealed that Gilbert Kinyua, the patient who was stabbed to death in one of its wards, had a rare neurological disorder.

This condition led to severe muscle weakness, making him completely immobile and dependent on full-time nursing care.

He was admitted to KNH in December last year after being referred from St. Mary’s Hospital Lang’ata for specialized treatment. His condition required constant medical attention, including tube feeding and frequent monitoring by hospital staff.

Kinyua was placed in Ward 7B, which specializes in treating neurological conditions that affect the nervous system.

KNH has clarified that this ward does not accommodate mental health patients, countering claims in some reports that suggested otherwise.

Despite the seriousness of his condition, the hospital confirmed that he was stable under their care. Medical records indicate that his prolonged immobility had led to pressure ulcers, a common complication in such cases.

However, there was no indication that his life was at risk before the attack.

Routine checks were carried out the night before his death, and hospital staff reported no unusual observations. His condition remained unchanged until early morning, when nurses discovered his body under disturbing circumstances.

At around 6 a.m., during routine ward rounds, Kinyua was found with his face covered by a blood-stained sheet. Upon removing the sheet, hospital staff discovered that he was motionless, with a deep cut wound on his neck.

The scene indicated that he had been attacked while in his hospital bed, raising serious concerns about security measures within the facility.

Hospital authorities have stated that there is no evidence suggesting an outsider was involved in the killing.

This has raised more questions about how such an attack could occur in a secured hospital ward. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to Kinyua’s death.

Police are gathering evidence and speaking to hospital staff and patients who may have noticed any suspicious activity before the incident.

The incident has put a spotlight on security at KNH, with the public questioning how a vulnerable patient could be murdered inside a hospital ward without immediate detection.

The hospital has assured Kinyua’s family of full cooperation with authorities as they seek justice. However, the lack of clear answers so far has fueled speculation about the hospital’s security lapses.

Authorities now face pressure to explain how the attack happened and to implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The case remains under active investigation, with both the hospital and law enforcement working to establish the truth behind the shocking murder.
