The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that schools should collect the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results printouts from their Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDE) offices.
This update came a week after the results were officially released on January 9.
The announcement informed all schools that had registered candidates for the examination to get in touch with their respective SCDEs to obtain the printouts of the results.
During the release of the 2024 KCSE results, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba revealed that a total of 962,512 candidates had successfully sat for the examination.
The statistics presented showed a notable change this year, as female candidates outnumbered male candidates for the first time since the exam’s inception.
In total, 482,202 female candidates participated in the 2024 KCSE, compared to 480,310 male candidates.
This shift highlighted the growing number of female students entering secondary education and participating in national exams.
In terms of performance, there was an improvement in the number of top performers.
A total of 1,693 candidates achieved a mean grade of A, marking a sharp increase from the 1,216 students who obtained the top grade in 2023.
This rise in high achievers suggests a positive trend in the quality of education and student dedication.
Furthermore, 246,391 students attained a grade of C+ or higher, meeting the qualifications for university entry.
This figure was also an improvement compared to the 201,133 students who secured the same grade in the previous year.
The shift towards technical and vocational education also became evident, as 476,889 candidates received a grade of C-, qualifying them for enrollment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.
This group accounted for 49.41% of all candidates who sat for the exam, highlighting the growing emphasis on alternative education paths and technical skills.
The Education Cabinet Secretary announced the introduction of a mid-year KCSE examination for students who missed or failed the initial exam.
This new exam series aims to provide an opportunity for candidates wishing to repeat the examination.
This announcement will also benefit the 2,829 students whose exams were withheld, as well as the 840 students who had their entire results canceled.
This mid-year exam initiative is expected to support those who faced challenges in the regular exam period, offering them a second chance to achieve their academic goals.
