The Service Party (TPS) belonging to former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has suffered a major blow after one of its official jumped ship to Deputy President William Ruto’s associated party, UDA.

John Methu, who has been TPS Director of campaigns and political affairs confirmed to joining UDA on Friday.

“This decision has been informed by deep consultations with the people I seek to service as and profound soul searching…The future of a county and by extension of a country is premised on its investment on good leaders,”

Methu said as quoted by The Star.

He made his announcement exit while in Ol Kalou town in Nayandarua County.

Muthe wants to unseat Mwangi Paul Githiomi as Nyandarua Senator come 2022 general election which will take place on August 9.

According to Muthe, his decision to shift guard to UDA was informed by what his supporters.

“I have been the Deputy Secretary General of TSP. We have agreed and have resolved that with immediate effect, I cease being the Deputy Secretary General of The Service Party,” he said.

This coming at a time when political temperatures in the country are beginning to rise, as Kenya gears towards next year’s general elections.

Methu’s exit comes just about ten days ago when Njogu Barua dumped TPS as Deputy Secretary General to join UDA.

Barua, a former MP for Gichugu Constituency said he wishes to regain his seat on a UDA ticket, a decision he said was informed by the wishes of his closest allies.

“Their preferred presidential candidate is none other than William Samoei Arap Ruto,” Barua said.

One of political bigwigs in Mt. Kenya voting block who has hinted shifting guard to UDA form the ruling party Jubilee is incumbent Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

In recent past, DP William Ruto has made political forays in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard in a bid to whip Mt. Kenya voters to support his race to the State House.

It is a move, which has not worked so well with the President’s closest allies who have accused the DP of sabotaging his boss.

However, with the current political exodus being witnessed in the country, as aspirants shift form party to party, it is too close to call what exactly a political party one would fit in, in order to realise August 9, 2022 dream.

Comparing to previous political campaign traits, February or March next year or there about would be the exact time to tell where one stands politically.
