Kenyans have dragged the secretary general of Central Organizations of Trade Unions (COTU), Francis Atwoli who was first elected in the post in 2001. Why Atwoli is being dragged in such a mess is all thanks to the position he holds at the organization whose function is to facilitate achievement of workers’ rights, enhance social protection and provide effective representation of Kenyan workers among others.

Kenyans have accused Atwoli of focusing on politics while Kenyan workers are suffering. Others have pointed out that Atwoli who is a champion of BBI initiated by the President and the ODM party leader, Raila Odinga has been vocal on the initiative and luhya politics instead of defending the rights of Kenyan workers.

“Atwoli would rather talk about BBI and issues surrounding Luhya politics, than defend the rights of several workers who are sinking into depression because of poor working conditions. He should resign coz it’s clear he no longer has workers interest at heart.”, posted one concerned Kenyan.

Others have called upon Atwoli to reprimand the employee of the man who desperately demanded for his pay in Nyali. ” I am waiting for a statement from Francis Atwoli on the unfortunate incident at Nyali Bridge. We saw the video of the young man crying about his salary. He looked frustrated. Tweeps have confirmed it was him. So, we want uncle to reprimand that rogue Mhindi who delayed the salary.” Wrote another.
