Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga was caught on the receiving end yesterday after he seemingly criticized Raila Odinga’s campaigns that have been touching on Kenya’s historical events.

Kahiga downplayed Odinga’s historical campaigning style and called on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader to tell Nyeri residents his development agenda in the region when he becomes in 2022.

“Tafadhali msidanganywe na maneno ya historia… It is not time to talk about history it is time to talk about where we are going. Tunataka tuongee maneno ambayo yanawafurahisha wananchi,” said Kahiga.

Jubilee Nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda dismissed Governor Kahiga’s remarks, saying historical events are crucial in the political development of the every country.

“History must be told because it brings Kenyans together as they know where they have come from. I wonder if he is really a Kikuyu because he doesn’t want to talk about history,” Kamanda said.

Siaya Senator James Orengo on the other hand told Kahiga that history will be told whether the governor likes it or not, given that the struggle for independence started in Nyeri.

Orengo further said that Kenya’s history is the foundation of what the country has transformed to be today.

“The foundation of Kenya’s history is based in Nyeri, and we must tell you about history whether you like it or not,” Orengo said.

Muranga County Women Representative Sabina Chege on her part said the governor’s words were irrational and that Odinga’s struggle for Kenya would never be forgotten in Kenya’s history.

“Hio maneno ya historia ambayo tumeambiwa hapa siku ya leo… you (Raila) are on the record; wewe do umepigania democracy katika nchi ya Kenya, wewe ndio umejitolea mpaka tukakua na new constitution,” she said.

Odinga is on a two-day political tour in Nyeri County, hosting a series of Azimio la Umoja events while meeting stakeholders from the region.
