Several lanes on Thika Superhighway have on Monday August 31 been temporarily closed for maintenance works.
A statement from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the affected sections are between Nairobi – Ruiru and Ruiru – Thika.
“These works may result in temporary closure of some lanes during the day,” their statement seen by 254news.co.ke read.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution around the work areas, follow the traffic management plan and directions given by the traffic marshals.
Some took to Twitter wondering what had caused the snarl up while others warned fellow motorists to avoid the superhighway at all costs.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) had announced that a section of the Thika Superhighway would be closed for five days starting August 21.
Earlier this month, a section of Thika Road was closed at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies/Survey of Kenya.
The closure was also to allow the erection a footbridge whose construction had been ongoing for several months.
