Kagure blames drama and greed for Nairobi’s struggles as 2027 race takes shape

Agnes Kagure has said that Nairobi’s problems come from poor leadership choices and not by accident, and she believes the city needs leaders who put work before drama and greed.

In a Facebook post, the businesswoman and politician explained that a great city like Nairobi fails when disorder is allowed to become normal and when leaders focus on personal interests instead of public service.

She called for new leadership that respects the will of the people, restores order, and delivers real results. Her message has attracted wide attention online, with many residents agreeing that the city needs a new direction.

Kagure’s views are shaped by her own life experience. She grew up in a poor family as one of eleven children and moved to Nairobi at the age of 19 to escape hardship. Her first job was as a house help before she joined the insurance sector as a sales agent.

The work was difficult and required daily effort just to survive. Over time, she became a unit manager and later started her own insurance agency. Her journey from struggle to business success has made her a symbol of determination and hard work.

Through her foundation, she has supported women and young people with skills training and small business assistance, showing her interest in community development.

In politics, Kagure has remained active for several years. She was once involved with the Jubilee Party and was nominated for a deputy governor position in 2018, although that did not go through. In 2022, she ran for governor as an independent candidate.

Today, she leads the Kenya Patriots Party and is preparing for another attempt at the governor’s seat in the 2027 elections. She presents herself as a fresh voice who understands both business and the struggles of ordinary people.

The issues she raised reflect the daily challenges faced by many Nairobi residents. Since Governor Johnson Sakaja took office in 2022, complaints have continued about waste management, traffic congestion, flooding during rainy seasons, and poor service delivery in some areas. Revenue collection remains weak, and some neighborhoods receive better services than others.

Delays in government offices and lack of resources have made it difficult to respond quickly to public needs. Corruption and favoritism in hiring have also damaged trust in county leadership.

These problems affect businesses and households alike. Many traders struggle to get licenses because of slow and complicated processes.

In areas such as Eastlands and informal settlements, residents face poor roads and unreliable water supply. The city’s fast population growth has not been matched with proper planning for housing and transport.

Political conflicts often take attention away from solving these problems, creating frustration among citizens who expect better management.

Kagure’s call for change focuses on hard work, order, and listening to the people. She has promised to improve service delivery, strengthen revenue systems, and support programs for youth and women. While some supporters praise her courage and leadership ability, others want clear plans on how she will deal with traffic, unemployment, and housing.

Her message is finding support among those who feel Nairobi needs a new path.

Nairobi’s future depends on leadership that values responsibility and steady action.

The city has strong economic and cultural potential, but progress requires commitment and respect for citizens’ needs. Kagure’s statement has reopened discussion about what kind of leadership the capital deserves and how to move from disorder to better governance through practical effort rather than promises.
