Juja MP George Koimburi found himself in trouble on Tuesday morning after detectives arrested him outside his home on Kenyatta Road. He was on his way to Parliament when officers intercepted him and took him to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning.
The arrest took many by surprise, and the exact reasons behind it were not immediately clear. Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa was the first to break the news, expressing his shock on social media. He claimed that Koimburi had managed to call him while being taken away but did not have time to explain what was happening.

Thang’wa suggested that the government was targeting Koimburi for unknown reasons, fueling speculation about political motives behind the arrest.
Koimburi’s lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, later claimed that the arrest was connected to comments the MP had made about President William Ruto’s administration.
Specifically, Koimburi had alleged that the government had spent over Ksh 13 billion to push Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

Njiru criticized the government for going after someone simply for speaking out, saying that Koimburi was just stating facts that were already public knowledge.
Over the weekend, Koimburi had attended a church event where he openly questioned why taxpayer money was allegedly being used to bribe people into supporting Odinga’s AU bid.
His remarks did not sit well with certain individuals, and it now appears that they may have led to his arrest. The DCI has remained silent on the matter, leaving Kenyans to speculate about the real reasons behind the MP’s detention.
Some believe that Koimburi’s arrest is part of a wider crackdown on politicians who criticize the government. In recent months, several leaders have found themselves under investigation or facing legal troubles after making controversial statements.

Others argue that there could be more to the story, possibly related to other legal issues Koimburi has faced in the past.
Koimburi is not new to controversy. In 2021, he was accused of forging academic papers while campaigning for the Juja MP seat. Although he managed to secure the position, questions about his qualifications never fully went away.

With this latest arrest, many are wondering if it is purely political or if there are other factors at play.As the situation unfolds, Kenyans will be watching closely to see what charges, if any, will be brought against Koimburi.
His arrest has already sparked debate about free speech and the limits of political criticism in Kenya. If the government is indeed using law enforcement to silence dissent, it could set a worrying precedent. However, until the authorities provide clear information, the true reasons behind Koimburi’s arrest remain unknown.
