Lang’ata MP, Jalang’o, has responded to the public uproar following his recent remarks during a visit to Kisii County. In a statement shared on his social media platforms on Monday, April 28, Jalang’o expressed disappointment over what he described as a misrepresentation of his words.
He stated that he was deeply hurt by the way his comments had been portrayed, stressing that his intentions were never to insult or belittle anyone.
“I have seen the reports about what was said during my visit to Kisii yesterday, and I am deeply hurt by the way my words have been misrepresented,” Jalang’o wrote.
His statement emphasized that he holds the Kisii community in high regard and that the claims of disrespect were completely out of line with his true feelings. He clarified that it pained him to hear people believe he would ever insult or look down upon the Kisii community.
“That is simply not who I am,” he added.Jalang’o went on to remind the public of his long-standing relationship with the Kisii people, explaining that they are not just his friends and colleagues, but also his neighbors and family. He highlighted the strong bonds he has shared with the community over the years and stressed that he would never do anything to harm those relationships.
His words were intended to help, not to offend, and he wanted to make it clear that any interpretation suggesting otherwise was completely misguided.
The controversy emerged after Jalang’o made comments during a church fundraising event attended by Deputy President Kindiki. During his speech, Jalang’o recalled an experience at a local lodge where he claimed to have seen gatherings of witches. He went on to suggest that the spread of electricity in the region could help curb such practices.
His comments were widely misunderstood, and many people interpreted them as derogatory and offensive. This led to significant backlash, with some people calling for clarification and an apology. In response to the growing controversy, Jalang’o urged the public to watch the full clip of his speech for proper context.

He warned that misinformation could easily divide communities, especially when falsehoods were allowed to spread unchecked. “Let us not let falsehoods sow division between people who have always stood together,” he said.
Jalang’o’s plea for unity reflected his belief that the Kisii community, like all communities, should be treated with respect and dignity. The MP concluded his statement by reaffirming his commitment to fostering unity and mutual respect among all communities.
He assured the Kisii people that his intentions were never to profile or offend them in any way. His focus, he emphasized, was on building stronger, more connected communities that would thrive together.
As Jalang’o seeks to put the controversy behind him, he remains committed to addressing any misunderstandings head-on and ensuring that his relationships with the Kisii people, and all communities, continue to grow.
