“It feels so sweet” Senator Onyonka expresses his gratitude after gaining hand in Parliament

A big political change has happened in Kenya’s National Assembly after the court ruled that the Azimio coalition is the majority. Because of this decision, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has lost his position as Majority Leader, and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has taken over.

For months, there has been a debate about which side had the majority. Azimio argued that some members leaving did not change their numbers.

The court agreed and ruled that Azimio is still the majority in Parliament. This decision has caused a lot of reactions from both sides of the political divide.

Kimani Ichung’wah, while respecting the court’s decision, said he does not agree with it. He insisted that members from UDM, MDG, and MCCP have the right to move to any political side they want.

According to him, they should not be forced to stay in Azimio if they no longer support the coalition.

Supporters of Azimio have celebrated the ruling, calling it a victory for democracy. Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, who is in Azimio, was among those who expressed excitement. He said it feels good to be on the majority side.

On the other hand, Kenya Kwanza members are not happy with the decision. Some believe it is an attempt to weaken their influence in Parliament.

This ruling is expected to change many things in Parliament. Laws, policies, and political decisions will now be handled differently with Azimio in control.

The change in leadership may also affect how the government operates. Kenya Kwanza might fight back by looking for new ways to regain influence.

Political analysts say this decision could lead to more realignments in the coming months. The big question now is how President Ruto’s government will handle this challenge.

Losing the majority in Parliament means pushing government policies might not be easy.

With Junet Mohammed as Majority Leader, Azimio will have more control over debates and decisions. This could slow down government plans and make it harder for Kenya Kwanza to pass laws without resistance.

Kenyans are watching closely to see what happens next. Some believe this ruling is good for democracy because it respects the law. Others think it will bring more political conflicts. What is clear is that this decision has shifted the balance of power, and both sides will now have to rethink their strategies.
