How Noordin Haji’s actions are undermining Kenya’s security and sovereignty

Reports indicate that the recent actions of Kenya’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General, Noordin Haji, have caused serious concern and widespread debate.

Haji was seen at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) welcoming Sudanese militia leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti.

Hemedti leads the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and has been sanctioned by the United States for allegedly leading a genocide in Sudan.

His arrival in Kenya, where he received a grand reception, has drawn strong criticism from different groups. The presence of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and NIS boss Noordin Haji at the airport to welcome Hemedti has shocked many, given Hemedti’s controversial past.

His group has been accused of atrocities, including genocide, in Sudan. Many people are questioning why such a figure was given such a warm welcome, especially in a country that claims to uphold human rights and the rule of law.

Reports also suggest that Noordin Haji’s involvement in this event is part of a bigger pattern of questionable actions.

Allegations have linked him to Somali oligarchs who are said to have financed the abductions of critics of President William Ruto’s government.

These oligarchs reportedly have a major interest in Ruto’s presidency and are alleged to have paid in advance to secure top positions in Kenya’s security system, including the roles of NIS Director General, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and head of Military Intelligence.

By controlling these positions, they can allegedly manipulate policies and decisions in their favor, often harming local businesses and enterprises.

Since June 2024, Kenya has seen a rise in abductions, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings. Reports claim that these acts are being carried out by the Somali oligarchs with Noordin Haji playing a key role.

His alleged involvement in these activities has severely damaged his reputation, with critics branding him the “abductor-in-chief” who serves the interests of a few powerful individuals instead of the Kenyan people.

The grand welcome for Hemedti, a man accused of war crimes, has only made things worse, raising more questions about the integrity and motives of those in power.

The recent developments surrounding Noordin Haji have cast doubt on his leadership and raised serious concerns about Kenya’s security and governance.

The decision to warmly receive a controversial figure like Hemedti, along with the growing allegations of corruption and abuse of power, has left many Kenyans demanding answers.
