How Kenyan Activist Mwabili Mwagondi was inhumanely tortured in Tanzania and dumped at the border

For four painful days, Mwabili Mwagondi, a well-known activist, faced what he describes as a cruel effort to silence him.

His only mistake was speaking out against the Kenyan government. Mwabili had gone to Tanzania for work. He was working as a hotel manager when things took a terrible turn.

He was suddenly taken by unknown men who blindfolded him and dragged him to an unknown place. No one knew where he was. What followed was a horrifying experience that left him shaken and wounded.

After his rescue, he shared part of what he went through. He said the kidnappers gave him food, but soon after eating, they started beating him without any warning. They didn’t ask him anything. It was just pain and violence.

During the chaos, they also took away his laptop and leather belt. The worst part, according to Mwabili, was when they started injecting him with strange substances.

He was injected in the head, arms, and back. He doesn’t know what was in the injections. He also doesn’t know if they were meant to knock him out or harm him further.

What he knows is that it left him weak and helpless.

After spending four days being tortured in Tanzania, he was thrown out near the Kenya-Tanzania border. He thought that nightmare was over, but it wasn’t.

Another group, possibly from Kenya, picked him up near the border. They didn’t help him. Instead, they continued mistreating him, questioning him harshly and mocking him as if he were a criminal.

His family had been searching for him and fearing the worst. When he finally contacted them, they found him in very bad shape. He was weak, tired, and mentally broken.

He’s now trying to recover from the trauma and injuries he suffered. Human rights groups have strongly condemned the incident.

One of the activists said what happened to Mwabili is not just a violation of his rights, but also a sign that people are being punished for telling the truth.

They are now asking for urgent investigations and protection for those who dare to speak up. Mwabili’s case has raised serious questions about freedom and safety for activists in the region.
