Details have emerged how kDF officers ignored the plight of the eight Kenyan fishermen whose boat capsized in the Indian Ocean and survived in water for 17days.

The eight who survived on 58 kilograms of lobster and fish which was their catch on the day their boat capsized in Ziwayu area in Kilifi county begged for help from KDF officers on their 9th day of survival but the officers ignored them.

Muya Gichigi revealed on twitter that the Kenya Navy officers found the right fishermen but ignored their plights,

“Kenya Navy found those fisherman that survived for 17 days stranded in the deep sea on their 9th day dying of thirst drinking sea water but the guys left them for dead, no amount of begging persuaded the Navy crew to rescue or even give them food & water.”

He went on to clarify that,

“They (Kenya Navy officers) were patroling the deep waters found the guys drifting made contact, the guys asked for help the Navy guys outright refused without reason & left them not even with a bottle of water nor hope of coming back for them.” Gichigi clarified.

The eight were finally rescued by other fishermen who found them in open sea, then rushed to the Malindi Sub-County hospital for specialized treatment.

“I saw how skinny & dehydrated one of the guys was & my heart just sunk how cruel the Navy guys were.” Muya Gichigi stated
