Harambee stars head coach Francis Kimanzi has named his provisional squad for this year’s CECAFA Senior Championship. The tournament is set to be held in Uganda from December 7th.
The tournament mainly features players in the local football league though Francis Kimanzi has included one foreign based player, Anthony Wambani. Experienced players like Joash Onyango, Cliff Miheso, Samwel Olwande and Lawrence Jima, who have been playing for the senior team are also in the sqaud. The team is set to report to camp on December 2nd to begin preparations.
Kenya has been pooled in group B alongside Tanzania, Djibouti and Zanzibar. The top two teams in each of the three groups plus two best losers will proceed to the quarter finals.
Kenya are the defending champions having won the 2017 edition of the CECAFA tournament staged in Machakos. They are expected to face a challenge from the hosts Uganda and neighbours Tanzania. However, coach Kimanzi has expressed faith in the ability of his squad. Gor Mahia’s Joash Onyango is expected to captain the team. He has a wealth of experience in playing at the international scene for both the national team and his club.
