The mother of a Kenyan police officer who went missing in Haiti has broken her silence, issuing a heart-wrenching appeal to the government after weeks of unanswered questions. From her humble home in Nyandarua County, she spoke with visible pain, revealing how the long silence from authorities has left her family confused and heartbroken.
Her son, a young officer full of pride and purpose, had volunteered to be part of the peacekeeping mission sent to help restore peace in Haiti. When he left Kenya, he was full of hope, determined to serve his country and help bring order to a troubled land.
But now, after more than three weeks without a single word from him, the family is living in constant fear and anxiety.
“My son left this country to serve with honor, but now I don’t even know if he is alive or dead,” the mother said as tears welled up in her eyes.
Her voice shook as she described the sleepless nights and the helplessness of not knowing what happened to her child. “I wake up every day hoping the government will call me, but there is no word. Why are they silent?” she asked.
Her words reflect the pain of many families who send their loved ones into dangerous missions only to be ignored when things go wrong. The missing officer was part of the first group of Kenyan police deployed to Haiti under a United Nations-supported mission.
The mission itself has faced criticism due to the dangerous conditions in Haiti, especially in the capital, Port-au-Prince, where criminal gangs have taken control of large parts of the city.
Soon after the Kenyan officers arrived, violent clashes broke out, and many families lost contact with their loved ones. The mother says the silence from the government has been unbearable.
“I gave my son to this country. All I ask is to know the truth,” she pleaded. “Even if he is no more, I deserve to know.”

Since then, the family has gone from one government office to another, making phone calls, asking questions, and pleading for information. But no one has given them any official response. Every day that passes only deepens their pain.
Human rights groups have now stepped in, calling on the government to break its silence and give families clear updates on the status of their relatives. These groups say it is unfair and inhumane to keep families in the dark when lives are involved.
The mother’s voice is becoming louder and more urgent. She is not just speaking for her own son, but for all the other officers whose fates remain unknown. “Our children are not statistics. They are human beings. We deserve the truth,” she said.
Her words cut deep, reminding the government and the public that behind every uniform is a family waiting, hoping, and praying. The silence must end. Families need answers. They need peace of mind. And most of all, they need dignity and justice for the sacrifices their loved ones have made.
