The Ministry of Health (MoH) has acknowledged the transfer of Ksh.1.75 billion to cover doctors’ and medical interns’ wages and allowances earned since 2016.
According to Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, the government has begun paying doctors’ salary arrears, which have amassed to Ksh.3.5 billion since 2016.
Speaking in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, on Saturday, the PS stated that they have already cleared Ksh.1.75 billion.
“It is important to note that we have cleared the Ksh.1.75 billion owned by the doctors that emanated from the CBA of 2016 up to this year and we will continue working very closely with them because our health workforce is very dear to us,” PS Muthoni said.
The PS also stated that medical interns will receive their arrears this month in their salary.
“The government will not be deducting money owed to them as we agreed in our meeting with Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union,” Muthoni added.
