Pressure for the Mt Kenya region to front a candidate in the 2022 polls continue with Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia now saying that the region has all the right to produce a flag-bearer.
Kimemia who was speaking during the launch of Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s book ‘Beyond Politics’ co-authored by veteran journalist Njeri Rugene, Kimemia said just because the region has produced the last two Heads of State doesn’t mean it should bow to pressure and settle for a lesser position.
“Let’s stop these politics of Mt Kenya East versus West, It will not help us. Let’s keep our votes intact. Let’s bargain with all our 14m votes,” He said.
He said his desire to be the 5th President is driven by the need to restore accountability and integrity in public service.
But on his part, Speaker of the national assembly Justin Muturi dismissed those who claim his bid is not viable and warned Kenyans to be wary of leaders who lack integrity.
The Speaker insisted that he is the right person to represent the region and the only candidate who can restore new order and give fresh impetus to the politics of this nation.
And while Muturi and Kiraitu encouraged the political competition already being experienced in the country based on ideological differences, they warned voters to be wary of electing leaders with questionable character into public office.
Murungi seemed to endorse Muturi’s bid saying the arguments that the Country isn’t ready for another President from Mt Kenya are far fetched.
